Jesus of Nazareth and the Historical Perception of His Message
Jesus of Nazareth and the Historical Perception of His Message
While reading Roger Garaudy's Palestine: Land of Divine Messages, I feel it is a matter of conscience to share some of my reflections.
Before death comes knocking at the door, I consider it a great blessing for anyone sincerely seeking truth to encounter the message of Islam. May God treat us all with His mercy and forgiveness.
Tez: While reading Roger Garaudy's Palestine: Land of Divine Messages, I feel it is a matter of conscience to share some of my reflections.
Antitez: I believe that the messages preached by Jesus (Isa), who is also regarded as a prophet in Islam, have gradually been distanced from their original context through various interpretations and transmissions throughout history. Although different religious traditions and theological approaches offer diverse perspectives on this matter, it seems to me that the truths brought by Jesus have been interpreted in different ways under the influence of changing cultures and intellectual environments. In particular, I think that the present forms of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were influenced by the historical and cultural conditions of their time, and that this influence played a significant role in shaping Christian theology and understanding. Naturally, this remains a subject of debate among theologians and historians, who hold different views on the matter. Furthermore, I believe that Jesus was sent to challenge the misconceptions of his era and to guide people toward truth through universal principles and teachings. However, due to oral transmission, translation processes, and cultural differences, it is possible that these messages underwent various shifts in meaning as they were passed down from generation to generation. According to Islamic belief, the sending of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the final prophet was of great importance in redirecting humanity toward true guidance. I regard the Qur'an as a preserved revelation delivered to mankind and view the mission of the Prophet Muhammad as the completing link in this chain of divine guidance. Moreover, the importance that Arab society placed on oral tradition and the careful preservation of transmitted narratives can be seen as a significant factor in the preservation and transmission of revelation. Throughout history, Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike have made mistakes, suffered injustices, and at times been responsible for injustices themselves. While I believe that the remedy for the spiritual and moral renewal of Muslim societies lies in the Qur'an, which Muslims consider to be preserved in its original form, I also believe that the Torah and the Gospel, as they exist today, no longer fully reflect their original divine form. For this reason, I think that people should evaluate their beliefs through the lens of universal moral principles and seek guidance from what Muslims regard as the unchanged revelation of the Qur'an. Therefore, rather than condemning people as unbelievers until their final breath, I believe it is better to preserve hope, remind them of what one understands to be divine truth, and invite them toward faith with wisdom and sincerity. The final judgment, however, belongs to God alone. Ultimately, I believe that Islam is the true religion in the sight of God. I believe that humanity's salvation lies in faith in the Oneness of God and in walking upon the path that He has shown.
Sentez: Before death comes knocking at the door, I consider it a great blessing for anyone sincerely seeking truth to encounter the message of Islam. May God treat us all with His mercy and forgiveness.
